Why a spring clean is its own job

After a Plymouth winter, houses need more than a wipe round. Months of closed windows, wet coats, heating on and salt-laden air off the Sound leave a particular combination behind: dusty radiators, grubby paintwork around handles and switches, hazy glass, tired-smelling fabrics, and cupboards full of things nobody has looked at since October.

A spring clean deals with all of that in one planned visit. It is less about scrubbing stubborn grime, that is what a deep clean is for, and more about turning the house out, cleaning what is normally hidden, and putting everything back in better order than it came out.

We agree a room list before the visit so you decide where the time goes. Most customers want the kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms done properly and are happy for us to skip the loft or garage.

What a Plymouth spring clean covers

  • Kitchen cupboards emptied, wiped inside and restocked
  • Fridge and freezer cleaned, out-of-date items flagged
  • Oven, hob and extractor degreased
  • Interior windows, frames, sills and tracks cleaned
  • Curtains and blinds vacuumed or wiped
  • Radiators, covers and the dust behind them
  • Paintwork around doors, handles and switches washed
  • Wardrobes and drawers wiped out, ready for a clothes swap
  • Mattresses vacuumed and turned where safe to do so
  • Upholstery vacuumed, cushions plumped and rotated
  • Skirting boards, picture rails and light fittings
  • Under beds and behind moveable furniture
  • Bathroom grout, sealant and shower screens refreshed
  • Floors washed, carpets vacuumed with an edging tool

The best time to book a spring clean in Plymouth

March and April are the busiest weeks of our year, so if you want a Saturday slot in that window it is worth booking three or four weeks ahead. Mid-week dates are usually available at much shorter notice.

Plenty of customers deliberately book late, May and early June, for a simple reason: once the weather is settled you can have windows and doors open all day while we work, which makes a real difference to how fresh the house feels afterwards. If you have a holiday let or Airbnb property, book before the Easter holidays rather than after, so the property is ready for the first wave of visitors.

Decluttering: what we will and will not do

We will empty a cupboard, clean it, and put everything back tidily. We will tell you if food is out of date, group like with like, and leave wardrobes ready for a seasonal clothes swap.

What we will not do is throw anything away without being asked, or make decisions about your belongings. If you want a genuine declutter, the best approach is to spend an hour the evening before filling a couple of bags, and let us handle the cleaning of the empty space. Cleaners should not be the ones deciding what you keep.

Add-ons worth bundling with a spring clean

Because we are already turning the house out, this is the most efficient time of year to add the specialist jobs. Carpet cleaning makes sense once furniture has been moved anyway, and sofa and mattress cleaning is far easier when cushions are already off and beds already stripped.

A dip-tank oven clean is the other common addition. We take the parts away, clean them off site, and refit them, which is impossible to do properly in the middle of a normal clean. Bundling two or three of these into one visit usually works out cheaper than booking each separately.

Spring cleaning prices

Like a deep clean, a spring clean is quoted as one fixed price for the agreed room list.

What you get

A spring clean, not a quick once-over

Cupboards out, not wiped round

Every agreed cupboard, wardrobe and drawer is emptied, cleaned and restocked: the part of spring cleaning nobody enjoys.

Fresh air, not fragrance

We clean the source of stale smells (fabrics, bins, drains, radiators) instead of masking them with air freshener.

One day, whole house

A planned single visit with an agreed room list, so you know exactly what will be done before we arrive.

Book your spring clean before the diary fills

March and April book up weeks ahead in Plymouth. Tell us the size of your home and the rooms you want covered, and we will hold a date for you.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

A deep clean targets condition: baked-on grease, limescale, grout, neglected bathrooms. A spring clean targets reset: cupboards and wardrobes turned out, interior windows cleaned, fabrics and mattresses freshened, dust removed from the places a regular clean never reaches. If your house is basically clean but tired, you want a spring clean. If it needs rescuing, book a deep clean.

For a weekend slot in March or April, three to four weeks. Mid-week dates in those months are often available within a week, and from May onwards we usually have good availability at short notice.

We clean the inside of windows, the frames, sills and tracks as standard. Exterior glass above ground floor needs pole-fed or access equipment, which is a specialist window cleaning job. We are happy to tell you what to ask a local window cleaner for.

Yes, and it is often the smartest option. Kitchen-only and bedroom-only spring cleans are both common. You pick the room list, we quote that list, and nothing outside it gets touched or charged for.

We move anything that can be shifted safely by one or two people (sofas, beds, side tables) and clean behind and underneath. We do not dismantle fitted furniture or move anything heavy enough to risk damaging floors or the item itself, and we will always ask first.
