Cleaning Peverell's period homes, PL3

Peverell is one of the most popular parts of Plymouth to live in and one of the most interesting to clean. The Edwardian and Victorian terraces around Peverell Park Road, Hyde Park and the streets running down towards Central Park come with features that modern houses simply do not have: picture rails, cornices, deep moulded skirtings, panelled doors, sash windows with runners, and original encaustic or quarry-tiled hallways.

Every one of those features is a dust trap, and most of them need cleaning by hand rather than with a machine. A fortnightly regular clean here is slightly longer than in an equivalent modern house for exactly that reason, and we would rather tell you that at the quote stage than rush a period property in two hours.

Original floors need care, not just cleaning. Victorian tiles, unsealed stone and old floorboards do not respond well to the strong alkaline products that are fine on modern vinyl, and over time harsh cleaning dulls them permanently. We use pH-appropriate products on original surfaces and will tell you what we think your floors need.

Families, professionals and the fortnightly slot

Most of our Peverell customers are working families and professional couples on a fortnightly clean, often with ironing added. The streets are dense, which works in your favour: because we have several customers in walking distance of each other, we can offer more day options in PL3 than in spread-out areas, and short-notice cover is easier.

Three-storey terraces take longer than they look on paper. Stairs are the slowest part of any house to clean properly, and a Peverell terrace often has two flights plus a landing. We account for that honestly in the quote.

Student and rental properties in PL3

Peverell has a substantial rental market, including houses let to students and young professionals, and end of tenancy cleaning is a big part of our local work. Especially in late June and early July when the student year ends and the whole area turns over at once.

If you are sharing a house here and moving out, book one clean for the whole property and split the cost. It is far cheaper per person than cleaning rooms individually, and the inspection is on the whole house anyway. Book early for those two weeks. They are the busiest in our year.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Usually yes, by around twenty to thirty per cent compared with a modern house of the same number of bedrooms. Picture rails, cornices, deep skirtings, panelled doors and sash window runners all have to be cleaned by hand, and three-storey terraces mean two flights of stairs. We factor that into the quote rather than rushing it.

Yes. Victorian encaustic and quarry tiles, unsealed stone and old floorboards need pH-appropriate products. Strong alkaline cleaners that are fine on modern vinyl will dull original surfaces permanently. Tell us what you have and we will treat it properly.

Regularly, particularly for end of tenancy cleans in late June and early July. If you are a group sharing, one clean for the whole house split between you is much cheaper per person than booking rooms separately. Book early, because those weeks fill up across PL3 and PL4.
